"Principia College's Carlie Sanderude, a freshman from Ridgefield, Conn., has been named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 20-26.

Sanderude, a midfielder, helped the Panthers record their second shutout this season with a 7-0 win versus Eureka College. Usually a center midfielder, Sanderude was shifted to the right back position due to injuries on Principia's defensive backline. She also scored Principia's first goal of the game off a corner kick.

'Carlie [Sanderude] had to quickly adjust her attacking mannerisms and discipline herself to stay at home,' commented Principia head coach Lee Ellis. 'Her speed and heads-up play made it nearly impossible for Eureka to attack down the right side.
