Bloomington, IL- The Panthers traveled to Bloomington, IL to take on the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan in their first of the New Year. The Panthers were unable to capture the win from IWU, ultimately due to the depth of their team, but they fought to every wall and walked away with some fast swims.
Freshman
Tyler Loechner captured the only win for the men with a 200 backstroke time of 2:07.42. Loechner's time puts him in the 10th position on Principia's all time top 10 list for the 200 back. Junior
Will Crowley swam another solid meet taking 3rd in both the 50 free (23.61) and 100 free (51.80). Freshman
Andy Furbush followed suit with two really fast swims taking 4th in both the 50 free (23.78) and the 100 free (52.02) behind just behind Crowley. Senior captain Bob Cleveland swam to a season best 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:51.87.
On the boards, juniors
Nick Trapp,
Matt Poulos, and Rigel Valentine took 1st, 2nd, 3rd respectively. All three added new dives to their list, adding depth to their scores.
With their first meet of the New Year under their belt, and their first since the end of sports camp, the Panthers fought hard with some fast swims. Principia swims next weekend at the Washington University Invitational in St Louis on both Friday Jan. 15th at 6pm and Saturday Jan. 16th at 11am. Without a doubt, we look to bring home some more improvements in the water and on the boards.
