CARBONDALE, ILL. -- The Principia College Thunder Chickens traveled to play the Southern Illinois University Salukis with a final score of 24-7. The Salukis scored three times in the first half, while Principia's lone try came from fly half
Will Bisbee, in the 22nd minute, to even the score at 7-7.
Both teams played strong defense near the try line, with the Salukis successfully kicking a ball out of the in-goal to stop the Thunder Chickens from scoring, and Principia returning the favor by holding up a maul inside their own in-goal to prevent SIU from touching the ball down for points. With temperatures in the high 30s and water covering most of the field, it was a slow and muddy game in which SIU was able to utilize kicking much more successfully than Principia.
