Men Have Several Season Bests in Double Dual Meet

Jacksonville, Ill. --

The Principia men's swim team had a wonderful meet against both Illinois College and Franklin College in a double dual meet. Although the Principia men swam fast and swam several season bests, it was not enough as Principia fell to both Franklin College with a score of 26 to 55 and Illinois College with a score of 23 to 69. The double dual meet at Illinois College featured the short distance events, ones hundreds of each stroke, along with the 200 individual medley, 50,200,500, and 1000 freestyle events. This meet did not have diving facilities, however the Principia men's dive team joined the Principia men's swim team for some relay events.

The meet got off to a fast and successful start as freshman Justin Duffy swam a season best 50 breaststroke split in the 200 medley relay, Duffy swam 30.86. Following a successful opening to the meet, Duffy furthered his success, this time joined by fellow freshman Garrett Moulton, as both freshman swam season bests in the 50 free. Duffy swam a quick race with a finishing time of 25.23. Moulton also had a quick race touching in at 28.08, dropping over a second from his previous season best. Moulton swam another season best in the 100 freestyle, this time joined by sophomore Josh Harmon, who also swam a season best. Moulton dropped over three seconds from his previous best, finishing with a time of 1:10.01. Harmon dropped just under three seconds from his previous season best, completing with a time of 50.78. Duffy completed his day of competition with a final season best in the 100 breaststroke, dropping just over a second to finish with a time of 1:09.17. Moulton also completed his day of competition with one final season best in the 200 freestyle relay with a split of 28.17. Fellow teammate freshman Henry Hathaway who took time off the boards to help the men's swim team also swam a season best with a split of 28.12.

The meet was the first collegiate meet for all of the freshman swimmers, and the first official meet of the season for all of our returning swimmers. However, it will not be the last of the season. The men will race and dive against the men of Lincoln College at home on Saturday November 3 at 1:00pm.
