Women Race to Several Season Bests in Double Dual Meet

 The Principia women's swim team had a wonderful meet against both Illinois College and Franklin College in a double dual meet. Although the Principia swam fast, and had several season bests, it was not enough as the women fell to both Illinois College with a score of 31 to 60, and Franklin College with a score of 30 to 59.  The double dual meet at Illinois college featured the short distance events, ones hundreds of each stroke, along with the 200 individual medley, 50,200,500, and 1000 freestyle events.
 
The meet started off well with Senior Jenna Mehlenbacher swimming an unshaved life best breaststroke split with a time of 36.03 in the 200 medley relay. Junior Catherine Joyner swam well in the 200 freestyle, swimming a season best of 2:52.15. Joyner continued her success in the 100 freestyle where she swam an unshaved life time best with a time 1:18.92. Senior Captain Laura Perry and sophomore Jessica Neal found success in the 100 backstroke where both swam season bests, Perry finished with a time of 1:28.24 and Neal with a time of 1:32.65. Mehlenbacher continued a successful day by swimming a season best in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:19.40. The meet closed with the women's 200 free relay in which every member swim a season best split and took first place. The relay consisted of, junior Joanna Patzwald, freshman Meredith Brooks, freshman Dani McKenzi, and senior Jenna Mehlenbacher. Patzwald led off with a time of 28.40, followed by Brooks with a time of 28.69, McKenzi secured the lead with a 26.75 and Mehlenbacher brought it home with a time of 27.41.
        
The meet was the first collegiate meet for all of the freshman swimmers, and the first official meet of the season for all of our returning swimmers. However, this is only the beginning of the season. The women will race against the women of Lincoln College at home on Saturday November 3 at 1:00pm.
