Principia Softball competes well, but loses to Greenville College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILL

vs. Greenville

Game 1:  6-3 loss

This one was close and was there for Prin to take.  The Gold and Blue are getting into the habit of letting the other team score first and then their offense starts going.  If they could just start their offense instead of waiting they would have several more wins under their belt right now.  In a 0 – 0 game in the bottom of the 5th Prin had their leadoff runner on second with no one out.  A missed signal led to a base running error and instead of 1 out with a runner at third there were 2 outs and no one on and the inning ended quietly.  Greenville finally got on the board with 4 runs in the 6th, two of them unearned due to a missed fly ball by the Prin defense.  Prin answered in the bottom of the 6th with 3 runs but that was it.  Greenville added two more in the 7th and Prin couldn't answer.

Marianna Distel went 2 for 2 with a walk and Christine Nacewicz also had 2 hits, scored a run, had an RBI and stole a base.  Makaela Thompson was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Marina Whitney was 1 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.  Thanda Kyaw was 1 for 4 with a run scored and she stole a base.

Game 2:  12 – 3 loss

This game actually was close until the 7th when Greenville blew it open with 7 runs.  This one was a story of missed opportunities for Prin.  They loaded the bases in the second inning with no one out but only managed to score 1 run.  In the third they had runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and did not score a run.  In the 4th they loaded the bases with 2 out and scored 1 run on Greenville's fielding error.  The Gold and Blue could have had a big lead in this game if they could have gotten two or three key hits.  They left 10 runners on base and 7 of those runners were at 2nd or 3rd.  Oh, what could have been!

Devon Harrison was 2 for 4 with a triple and scored 2 runs.  Marina Whitney was also 2 for 4 and had an RBI.
