Softball drops two disappointing games to Westminster College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FULTON, MO. --

Vs. Westminster

Game 1:  5-0 loss

This was another winnable game that was beset with several errors.  The team gave up 4 unearned runs in the loss.  Westminster only had 4 hits in this game but ended up scoring 5 runs because of poor defensive play.  Devon Harrison pitched a really good game but the defense made errors and the offense wasn't strong enough to help.  The defense dropped 4 fly balls and the infield missed an infield pop-up.

Marina Whitney, Makaela Thompson and Thanda Kyaw all got 1 hit and that was it for offense.

Game 2:  7-2 loss

This one started out with promise and then went downhill quickly.  In the top of the 1st the team loaded the bases with 1 out and failed to score.  For the next 4 innings it was 3 up and 3 down as the offense struggled in this game as well.  After getting down 7-0 a spark of offense showed up.  There was a leadoff walk in the 6th and then back to back doubles to score 2 runs and suddenly there was some life in the team.  With a rally underway the base runner at 2nd tried to steal 3rd and got thrown out.  The next 2 batters struck out and there went the rally.  In the 7th it was back to 3 up and 3 down and the game was over.  Errors were in abundance again in this one and it wears on the pitchers when they need to get 4 or 5 outs in some innings because of defensive mistakes.  The two pitchers, Devon Harrison and Casey Lee have been throwing well and at times very well but are not getting the kind of defensive support they need.

Christine Nacewicz and Devon Harrison each hit a double.
