Men's Swimming and Diving Goes 2-1 In Quad Meet

JACKSONVILLE, ILL. -- The Principia College Men's Swimming and Diving team on Saturday traveled to Illinois College for a quad meet against Illinois College, Knox College, and Millikin University.

The meet was scored as three separate dual meets, and Principia went 2-1. The team beat Illinois College 91-60 and beat Knox 81-73. Millikin handed Principia its first loss of the season, 62-133.

The Principia Men's Swimming and Diving team is now 3-1 on the season.

Freshman Zacher Lewis, freshman Hunter Mehring, junior captain Josh Harmon, and freshman Nolan Saylor went 1:49.12 in the 200 Medley Relay, good for second place. Lewis (Back - 30.77), Mehring (Breast - 27.66), and Harmon (Fly - 24.39) all had season best relay splits in the race.

Mehring and Lewis were back in the water for the 100 Back. Mehring won the race with a time of 55.34. That timed earned him third on the Principia top-10 list. Lewis swam a 1:05.50 and took third in the event.

Harmon took first in the 100 Free with a fast time of 48.61, a season and unshaved lifetime best for him. Lewis went 2:18.09 in the 200 Back and placed third. Mehring picked up his second individual win of the day in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:20.94.

Harmon also earned his second individual win of the day in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.20. Saylor took third in the 100 Fly with a season best time of 1:05.54.

The team capped of their successful meet with a win in the 200 Free Relay. Saylor, Lewis, Mehring, and Harmon went 1:35.83.

The team is off next weekend and will have its first home meet of the season against Franklin College and Illinois Institute of Technology on November 23 at 2:00 PM at Crafton.
