Elsah, IL – Today's match against Missouri Baptist marked the final regular season match for this year's Principia Men's Tennis Team. It was also Senior Day for our lone senior,
Kevin Hagenlocher. We appreciate all that Kevin has provided us during his career. As a 2 time first team all conference member, he has brought continual stability to our lineup. Although the Panthers lost 6-3 to Missouri Baptist, it was a match that was filled with a lot of promise in looking towards the SLIAC Tournament.
The 1
st doubles team of
Jason Wissman and
Joey Sander raced out to a 4-1 lead in their match. However, the Missouri Baptist team picked up their game, as Wissman and Sander's game dipped slightly. After losing 6 straight games, Wissman and Sander broke serve to stay in the match. However, they lost the next game to lose 8-5. At 2
nd doubles,
Kevin Hagenlocher and
Kenny Sydness also took an early lead, and they were up a break at 5-4. However, they also lost traction and lost the match 8-5. At 3
rd doubles,
Andrew Fields and
Andrew Rohrer played some very solid tennis, despite the score not being representative of that. They lost the match 8-2.
In falling behind 3-0, the Panthers had an uphill battle if they wanted to make this a competitive match. At 1
st singles,
Jason Wissman played a very good match and was able to wear down his opponent. He won 6-4, 6-3. At 2
nd singles,
Joey Sander won the 1
st set relatively easily by a score of 6-2. However, his opponent picked up his game and Sander was unable to continue playing his best tennis. He lost 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. At 3
rd singles,
Kevin Hagenlocher played a very steady opponent. Despite his opponent making very few errors, Hagenlocher was able to make it a competitive match. However, he lost 6-3, 6-3.
At 4
th singles,
Andrew Fields started out the match playing very consistently. At the end of the 1
st set, Fields was unable to come out ahead. He did not find the same consistency that he found in the 1
st set and lost 6-4, 6-2. At 5
th singles
Andrew Rohrer played a great match. He was able to play steady tennis, and surprised his opponent with his steady volleys. Rohrer won 6-4, 6-4. At 6
th singles,
Kenny Sydness also played excellent tennis throughout his match. After winning the first set and taking a 5-2 lead in the 2
nd set, he faltered and his lead dipped to 5-4. However, Sydness was calm and closed out the match, winning 6-3, 6-4.
The Panthers next play in the SLIAC conference tournament on Friday against Westminster. Please come support the team!
