Men’s Tennis Defeats Central College in Tough Match

ELSAH, ILL. -- In their first post Spring Break match, the Principia Men's Tennis Team took on Central College. The match was close throughout, but in the end, Principia was able to prevail 5-4.

In the match at 1st doubles, Jason Wissman and Joey Sander were neutralized by their hard serving opponents, losing 8-6. At 2nd doubles, Nate Waters and Kenny Sydness were able to play some solid, attacking doubles throughout their match. They put pressure on their opponents and were able to put the ball away consistently. They won by a score of 8-3. At 3rd doubles, Andrew Rohrer and Aaron Switzer were unable to really find their groove. After being tied 4-4, they were unable to put together enough solid points to threaten their opponents. They lost 8-4.

Although the Panthers fell behind 2-1 after doubles, they were determined to not let this match slip through their hands. At 1st singles, Jason Wissman played excellent offensive minded tennis on his way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. At 2nd singles Joey Sander continually put pressure on his opponent at the net, enabling him to coast to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. At 3rd singles, Nate Waters was able to overcome some inconsistent play with some big shots. He won 6-4, 6-4.

With Principia only needing one more match for the win, everybody was watching Andrew Rohrer at 4th singles. After winning the fist set 6-1, Rohrer was in a tough battle for the 2nd set. Despite being down 5-4 in the set, he never lost his composure and was able to finally put his opponent away 6-1, 7-5. This victory gave Principia the win 5-4.

The Panthers will next be in action against Missouri Baptist here at Principia on Thursday March, 20th.
