Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILL. -- This doubleheader was a remarkable showing of just how strong a team Fontbonne is. Last year they went through the Conference undefeated and this year their team looks even better. They put on a display of how the game can be played. Their pitching was very good to terrific, they absolutely hammered the ball at the plate, ran the bases aggressively and played air tight defense. They are a force to be reckoned with!
Principia did not really help their cause in game 1 committing multiple mental errors especially in terms of coverages. With a team as aggressive and knowledgeable about the game as Fontbonne is they will make teams pay for every mental mistake they make. Giving away several runs to a team as good as Fontbonne is a recipe for a loss. Offensively Principia was handcuffed by the pitching. It was the first pitcher they have seen this year that throws over 60 mph and who also can throw a consistent rise ball. The team did not get a hit in game 1.
There were some improvements in game two specifically on offense. The team did come up with 4 hits, two of those from
Casey Lee and one each from
Christine Nacewicz and
Taylor Chichester. This was Taylors first ever game and to get a hit was a great achievement.
Game 1: Fontbonne – 17 Principia - 0
