Principia Men's Tennis Sweeps Webster, Now 3-0 in SLIAC

The Principia Men's Tennis Team traveled to St. Louis to take on the Webster University Gorloks in a SLIAC clash this morning. The Panther men were looking to make a statement in conference play, and they certainly accomplished this goal. The Panthers took care of the Gorloks with a 9-0 victory, moving to 3-0 in the SLIAC.

At 1st doubles, Jason Wissman and Joey Sander played one of their best matches of the year by being aggressive and taking control of the net. They quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. They coasted to a 8-1 victory. At 2nd doubles, Nate Waters and Kenny Sydness started out playing with their opponents, but after being behind 1-2, they raised their level of play. By making very few unforced errors, they were able to reel off seven straight games, winning 8-2. At 3rd doubles, Andrew Rohrer and Aaron Switzer were able to continue to play great attacking doubles, always looking to control the net. They consistently put pressure on their opponents by having both men at net. They earned their 8-3 victory.

At 1st singles, Jason Wissman put immediate pressure on his opponent by going up an early break. Wissman played very solid tennis, placing the ball well and moving his opponent around the court. In the end, Wissman's consistency wore down his opponent, as he won 6-1, 6-3. At 2nd singles, Joey Sander did not give his opponent an inch the entire match. Sander smothered the net, making life difficult for his opponent. Sander won 6-1, 6-0. At 3rd singles, Nate Waters played the best tennis he has in a while, as he made very few unforced errors while still being aggressive. Waters won 6-0, 6-1.

At 4th singles, Daniel Drake continued to build momentum in a season of great improvement. Drake's groundstrokes are extremely solid, and he continually dictates the points against his opponents. Drake won 6-2, 6-2. At 5th singles, Andrew Rohrer played his typical steady yet aggressive brand of tennis. Be was able to generate a lot of errors from his opponent on his way to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. At 6th singles, Kenny Sydness has little trouble with his opponent on his way to a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Principia's last regular season match is April 15th at 5:00 PM at Greenville College. The Panthers are looking to go into the SLIAC tournament with momentum, as well as the number 1 seed.
