Men’s Tennis Defeats Greenville, Finishes 4-0 in SLIAC

On this chilly day, the Principia Men's Tennis Team traveled to Greenville, IL to take on the Greenville Panthers in their final regular season match of the season. Principia was able to overcome the cold, and defeat Greenville 7-2 to finish 4-0, and in first place in the SLIAC.

At 1st doubles, Jason Wissman and Joey Sander were on top of their game early and often. Their dominating service performance gave their opponents little room to breathe. They won 8-1. At 2nd doubles, Nate Waters and Kenny Sydness were able to play their consistent brand of tennis while taking control of the net, winning 8-2. At 3rd doubles, Andrew Rohrer and Aaron Switzer were unable to find their rhythm. After going up 3-1, they could not put enough pressure on their opponents to withstand their surge. They lost 8-3.

At 1st singles, Jason Wissman played his typical brand of solid tennis, as he made few unforced errors and controlled most of the points. He won 6-1, 6-2. At 2nd singles, Joey Sander was able to get to net often to finish points with relative ease. He was able to win 6-1, 6-0. At 3rd singles, Nate Waters played a flawless first set, with few unforced errors and many winners. Although his play dipped in the second set, he was still able to close out the match with a 6-0, 6-4 victory.

At 4th singles, Daniel Drake controlled the entire first set, winning with relative ease. Unfortunately, Drake's opponent picked up his game, and he was unable to match his opponent. He lost 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. At 5th singles, Andrew Rohrer played the match of the day in a three set battle that lasted well into the night. Rohrer's steady play and consistency made for long rallies and some great tennis. In the end Rohrer was able to finish off his opponent with a 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-2 victory. At 6th singles, Kenny Sydness played a great first set, but struggled as his opponent found his rhythm in the second set. Sydness did well to battle back in the thirds set and take the match 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

Principia enters the SLIAC Tournament as the #1 seed. They will face the winner of the Webster vs. Fontbonne match on Friday, April 18th at 2:00 PM. This match will be played in St. Louis, MO at Westminster Christian Academy. The SLIAC Finals are scheduled for Saturday, April 19th at 11:00 AM.
