Panther softball keeps it close with Eureka

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EUREKA, ILL. --

GAME 1                EUREKA  - 2                         PRINCIPIA – 0

This was a really close one and was there for Principia to take.  It was well played and for the most part the defense was solid and the pitching gave the team a chance to win.  The challenge was a good pitcher who dominated Principia's offense.  They were only able to come up with 2 hits and left 4 runners in scoring position.  A timely hit or two and this could have been a different result.

Thanda Kyaw and Christine Nacewicz were the only players to get a hit.  What has to be added here is that once again Kelsey Whitney got hit by a pitch.  She now owns not only the school record for getting hit by a pitch in a season but as a sophomore already owns the school record for a career!

GAME 2                EUREKA – 5                         PRINCIPIA – 4

This too was a very close game with Principia coming on strong in the later innings and falling just short.  The team gave up 3 runs in the 1st and then another in the 2nd but then the offense began to find itself and they rallied for 2 runs in the third.  They pushed another run across the plate in the 6th, another in the 7th and had a rally going in the 7th but a base running error ended things with the team down only a run.  The pitching and defense played well and the offense came around but the mental base running error ended the chance of a full comeback.

Casey Lee, Thanda Kyaw and Kelsey Whitney all had 2 hits with Casey and Thanda each stealing a base and Casey scoring 2 runs.  Christine Nacewicz, Jessy MacMullin and Genevieve Smith each had 1 hit with "Nac" and Gen each scoring a run and "Nac" had an RBI.  Nine hits for the offense was a great effort.
