Men Swim Well in Loss to Lincoln College

LINCOLN, IL – The men's swimming team opened their meet season with a loss to Lincoln College, 31-138, but put up some solid times to start the season.  While the men's team was outnumbered by Lincoln College, there were some great races which led to some good times for this early in the season.

The men started strong with a 1:54.54 200 Medley relay time led by junior Zacher Lewis's season best 50 backstroke split of 30.64.  After a break for the 1000 free, Lewis came back with another season best time, this time in the 200 Free (2:02.01).  Freshman Garrett Barner scored his first season best with a 24.57 in the 50 Free.  A few events later he earned another season best with a 59.43 100 Fly.  In the next event, fellow freshman Andrew Boyd swam a season best in the 100 Free, breaking a minute in his first ever collegiate swim meet (58.79).

The men rounded out their "best" swims with a 200 Free relay of 1:37.46 where two team members swam bests.  Freshman Robin Grindstaff led off with a season best 24.64.  Lewis capped a great day of swimming with a lifetime best relay split of 23.63 to anchor the relay.

The team will be back in action next week – Saturday, November 7 – when they travel to Illinois College to take on three other teams (Illinois College, Knox College and Millikin Univeristy) in a quad meet starting at 1 pm.
