Carbondale, ILL. -- The Principia Thunder Chickens took on Southern Illinois University Carbondale this Saturday on Carbondale's home turf. Carbondale chose to forfeit the technical game, giving Principia the 24-0 win.
Carbondale chose to forfeit the game so that they could use players that were technically ineligible to play (due to paperwork and other issues). This decision is one that is not unheard of for rugby, since sometimes getting desired players the experience needed is more important than the "win". Nevertheless, Principia and SIU Carbondale played a friendly game to gain the much needed experience for both teams. Some Principia mistakes led to Carbondale winning on the scoreboard, but because of the forfeit, Principia left with the "W".
The Thunder Chickens finished up 4th in the conference which is very good considering this is a rebuilding year for Principia with many young players and not much experience. Look for the Thunder Chickens again in the spring of 2016 when they play their secondary season!
