Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, SC. --
Game 1: Principia 12 Bay Path College 2 This game was one in which Principia was able to take advantage of the other team's mistakes and turn it into a victory. An abundance of walks combined with several defensive errors allowed Principia to score in several innings. The team kept putting the ball in play and running the bases hard and were certainly rewarded for that.
The game did not start out that way with Bay Path getting several players on base.
Yulia Marquardt made a great throw to 2
nd base to pick off the base runner trying to steal and then Jessy MacMullin made a sensational diving catch to save 2 runs. The team got out of the inning without giving up a run and then they came out and scored 7 to completely turn the game around.
Yulia and Jessy each had a hit and scored multiple runs.
Kelsey Whitney also had a hit and drove in 4 RBI's. Every starter was on base at least once.
It is not uncommon for the team that gets a big lead early to lose focus and back off with their effort but Principia stayed in the game and did not let the big lead affect their concentration.
Game 2: Lycoming 13 Principia 0 This game was somewhat similar to what happened to the team on Tuesday. They played very well in game one on Tuesday but were not able to carry that effort over into game two. After playing well earlier in today's first game the team really never got going at all against Lycoming. Lycoming is a good team and the multiple mental and physical errors the team made doomed them to an early mercy rule. The team never even got a hit in this game. At times Principia will forget its defensive set plays and allow the opponent to advance easily or the will not react correctly in the "cut off" plays. Both of these mental omissions showed up in this game and when they are playing someone as good as Lycoming the game is going to end in a hurry.
There were a couple of high lights in this game. Jessy MacMullin and
Yulia Marquardt turned a beautiful double play to end one of the innings. The other high light was the improvements made by new pitcher
AC McMullen.
