Box Score 2 Elsah, Ill. - Game 1: Westminster – 10 Principia – 2 (in 5 innings)
The story of this game was giving up one big inning. Principia was in the game and proved itself to be competitive but it just goes to show how, in the game of softball, hesitation creates problems. One play that should have been an out resulted in an error that led to a 6 run inning against the Panthers. Westminster's pitcher had a good day earning 7 strikeouts and gave up a mere 3 hits. While she definitely was good the hesitation that showed up in the Panther defense also showed up at the plate. Principia's hitters are definitely capable of better results even against good pitchers. Jessy MacMullin,
AC McMullen and
Tanya Marquardt were the only individuals to get a hit in this game. Jessy's was a line drive to the fence earning her a triple and she also scored a run.
Game 2: Westminster – 10 Principia – 3
This game certainly was better than the first as the team played with much more focus and aggressiveness. They did give up another big inning (5 runs) but it was a result of good hitting by Westminster rather than a mental error on the part of Principia. Principia's pitching will not get many strikeouts, but they work to keep the ball down in the zone to generate ground balls. With the solid defense the team has this is how they will get most of their outs but it will at times lead to a big inning. The team's offense is going to have to put up significant runs each game. The offense definitely looked better this game but is still not where it needs to be. They did get 6 hits but that will not be enough for this team to win games. They had their chances in this game but didn't get the key hits they needed. They left 8 runners in scoring position in this one so 2 or 3 timely hits would have made this game really close.
Thanda Kyaw, Jessy MacMullin,
Ashley Shoemake,
Tori Cheatham,
Emma Herman and
Tanya Marquardt all got 1 hit this game.
Yulia Marquardt had a great offensive game going 2 for 2 with a single and an inside the park homerun. She also had a sacrifice bunt and a walk while scoring 2 runs and earning 1 RBI. Jessy had another triple and 2 RBI's.
