ST. LOUIS, MO. -- This Saturday, the Principia College rugby team, the Thunder Chickens, claimed a solid victory over a long time rival, Washington University.
Both teams were playing several underclassmen to give them some experience and show the coaches what they have for next fall. Principia's underclassmen took the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and desire to take over when the seniors depart. Brannon Curtis-Wittenberg was captain for his first time, and performed well. Many of the freshmen took starting positions and showed how far they have come since arriving in August. Upperclassmen were also put in the game here and there to coach along the underclassmen.
Overall, the game was a success and the team came away with a decisive win. Head coach
Ward Patterson comments, "We had a nice chance to develop some of our younger players and we were able to focus on the things we had been working on in practice. The upperclassmen were a huge help as they coached the younger players while out on the field."
