Principia softball falls to nationally ranked Fontbonne University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, MO. --

GAME 1:  FONTBONNE – 8      PRINCIPIA – 0      IN 5 INNINGS

There is a reason Fontbonne has been ranked in the NCAA Dlll top 25 in the country and seeded number 1 in SLIAC.  They are a really good team!  Principia found that out in their double header against Fontbonne.

In game one Fontbonne started to test the Principia defense with aggressive base running and when Principia made some errors of hesitation, runs started to cross the plate.  In the 2nd inning Principia got caught making some mental errors and gave up 3 runs.  This was the best pitching Principia had seen this season and they were overwhelmed at the plate.  Fontbonne added 5 more runs in the 3rd and for all intents and purposes the game was over at that point.

Thanda Kyaw got the team's only hit while her teammates struck out 10 times in 5 innings.  And, of course, Kelsey Whitney got hit by another pitch!

GAME 2:  FONTBONNE – 7        PRINCIPIA – 0

This was a really good game and by far the best defensive game Principia has played this season.  The game went 7 innings and Fontbonne was only up 3-0 going into the 6th inning.  The defense put it together.  They once again made great throws from the outfield to cut-offs and accurate relay throws to bases for outs.  Their communication was excellent and they were fun to watch making good play after good play and no mental miscues or hesitation.

The offense still struggled as they saw the same pitcher as they saw in game one and she was just as dominating in this one.  Thanda Kyaw got another hit in this game and so did Tanya Marquardt.  Much like last game the rest of the team was over matched, striking out 12 times in 7 innings.
