ELSAH, ILL. -- GAME 1: SLCOP – 8 PRINCIPIA – 3This game was one Principia let get away as it was one they could have won. St. Louis College of Pharmacy scored one run in the 1
st inning and then things settled down. Principia put a nice offensive inning together in the 3
rd to take a 3-1 lead but they gave the runs back plus one in the 4
th and couldn't muster any more offense. They had their lead off runner on in 4 other innings but were not able to get that runner over home plate. Principia left six runners in scoring position so they certainly had plenty of chances to score but just couldn't get that key hit. Principia also committed five defensive errors that led to four unearned runs. With some better defense and some key hits the result of this game could have been very different.
The Panthers were only able to get six hits from five starters in this game.
Ashley Shoemake had a good offensive game with 2 hits, a stolen base, 2 RBI's and one of her hits was a double.
Thanda Kyaw, Jessy MacMullin,
Kelsey Whitney and
Tori Cheatham were the other players to get a hit. Both Jessy and Kelsey scored one run.
GAME 2: SLCOP – 13 PRINCIPIA – 1 in 5 innings
Principia needs to score runs to win games and the offensive drought continued in this game. Add to that SLCOP putting a lot of balls in play that found gaps put this game out of reach after 4 innings. Principia played a better defensive game but many of the balls hit by SLCOP were in the gap. Principia needs one of those games where everything they hit finds a hole to restore their confidence. This team keeps trying and working hard so let's hope some balls start to drop for them.
Only 5 hits from 5 different players in this game and those who got hits were,
Yulia Marquardt,
Thanda Kyaw,
Kelsey Whitney,
Ashley Shoemake and Sam Bronkar. Ashley scored the teams only run and Sam's hit was a double. Both Thanda and Kelsey stole a base in this game.
