Men's Swimming Defeats Maryville With Solid Efforts All Around - UPDATED

ELSAH, IL – The men's swimming team notched another win this season, this time against Maryville University 94- 26.  After two hard weeks of training, they responded with solid performances.  They challenged themselves with new events and continued to make improvements.

Junior Zacher Lewis opened the meet for the men with a solid swim in his first ever 1000, going a 11:46.06.  Freshman Garrett Barner then won the 200 Free with a season best time of 1:59.50.  Junior captain Hunter Mehring won the 50 Free with a 22.09.  In the 100 Fly freshman Robin Grindstaff swam a 1:03.51 for a season best time while Mehring won the event with a 56.72.  The 100 Back saw a close race between Barner and Grindstaff, but Barner edging Grinstaff by only 1 one-hundreth of a second (1:07.56 to 1:07.57).  Doesn't get much closer than that!  Mehring won the 100 Breast in 1:01.54 for his third win of the meet.
While most of the times were not season bests, the team was coming off two hard weeks of training and they were an improvement from the previous week.

The team will be back in action on Friday, Jan 22 as Hendrix College comes to Elsah for a dual meet at 6 pm.  Then the men will take on 8 other teams in the annual Panther Invitational on Saturday at 1 pm.
