Elsah IL - The swimming and diving team hosted its first home meet of the season. The Principia Quad Meet included three other teams - Lincoln College, Lindenwood-Belleville University, and Franklin College.The women's team lost to all three teams, Lindenwood Belleville 186 - 24, Lincoln College 147 - 44, Franklin College 226 - 21. Despite the loss, the team has made great improvements within the last few weeks and many women achieved season bests.
The meet started with the 200 Medley Relay. Senior Bailey Bischoff, sophomore Gwen Battram, senior captain Shelby Barner and freshman Katie Lovegren finished with a 2:16.92. Lovegren earned a season best in her 50 Free split with a 30.45. Battram earned a season best in her 50 Breast split with a 42.56. In the 200 Free, Lovegren continued with another great swim when she earned a season best with a 2:30.78.
Later on in the meet, Barner earned a season best in the 100 Breastroke with a 1:18.72. Her teammate Battram also earned a season best in this event with a 1:32.55.
Sophomore Rachel Cook took part in the 1 Meter Diving event, this was her first time competing in an official collegiate meet. After the diving portion, the swimming events continued with the 100 Free. During that event the women achieved two season bests, one from Lovegren with a 1:09.39 and the other from freshman Clara Newsom with a 1:19.15.
Although the women faced some tough competition at this meet, they were able to produce many season bests. The next meet will be at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite in Bloomington, IL on the 19th of November. Diving will begin at 10 am and swimming will begin at 2pm.
