Jacksonville, IL - The Principia women's swimming team lost to the other three teams at the Illinois College Quad meet, Millikin University 115 - 57, Knox College 148 - 46 and Illinois College 151 - 58. Despite the loss, the women made improvements from the previous meet and swam several season bests.
The women started the meet strong with the 200 Medley Relay, finishing in third place. Junior Amanda Loudon, sophomore Gwen Battram, senior Shelby Barner and sophomore Allegra Pierce went 2:16.72. Barner had a lifetime best butterfly relay split in the medley relay, with a 30.23. In the 200 Free a few events later, freshman Katie Lovegren swam a season best with a 2:33.17. Freshman Clara Newsom and Battram also had season bests in the 200 Free, Newsom with a 2:55.48, and Battram with a 2:37.62 which was also her lifetime best.
Later on in the meet, freshman Clara Newsom swam a season best in the 100 Free with a 1:19.52. The meet ended on a high note with the 200 Free Relay event. Sophomore Rachel Cook, left the diving boards and joined the swimmers for the day. She swam a season best 50 Free split with a 32:41.
The women showed signs of good progress at this meet. They will be competing at the Principia Quad Meet, the first home meet of the season on November 12, starting at 1pm.
