PC Softball Myrtle Beach Day 2

Box Score MYRTLE BEACH DAY 2 – 2016

Albertus Magnus – 8                      Principia – 0

This was a bit of a rough day at the office for Principia.  Having gotten over the early season jitters yesterday the expectation was a more focused and purposeful team today but that was not the case.  Albertus-Magnus jumped on Principia with 3 runs in the 1st inning and that proved to be too much to overcome.  The team played fairly well offensively, collecting 6 hits in 5 innings as well as hitting several other balls hard that were turned into outs.  The offense showed signs of getting going but just could not get that key hit when they needed it.  Similar to yesterday, several lack of focus errors proved to be very costly for the team as they allowed a number of unearned runs for Albertus-Magnus and that led to a 5 inning mercy rule.

Leah Schaefer had another solid day at the plate going 2 for 3.  Helping her out on offense were Samantha Bronkar, Noelle Shoemake, AC McMullen and Tanya Marquardt who all had one hit in this game.

Bay Path – 8                       Principia – 0

There were a lot of similarities in this game and the first game of the day.  The offense showed signs of being dangerous but just couldn't get hits with runners in scoring position.  Bay Path scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and like game 1 in the day, it proved to be too much for Principia to handle.  There was plenty of good effort and some strong defensive plays that showed what this team is capable of.  Unfortunately consistency is something that needs work as the defense will at times look spectacular and then make several lack of focus mistakes that prove costly.

As already mentioned, the offense at times looked dangerous and this was a better game as 7 hits were recorded and there were some well hit balls that did not fall in for hits. Aleigha Russell led the team with 2 hits and Tanya Marquardt, Kelsey Whitney, Tori Cheatham, Claire Thompson and AC McMullen all had one hit each.
