Principia Softball in Myrtle Beach, Day 3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH DAY 3 – 2016

Bay Path – 6                       Principia – 5

Day 3 was heartbreak day for Principia as they played their best two games of the week to date but ended up giving away wins.  Their bats came alive against Bay Path and they controlled most of the game.  Heading into the bottom of the 7th with a 3 run lead the team made several errors and allowed Bay Path to tie the game and send it into extra innings.  Principia scored in the top of the 8th to take the lead but gave up 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th.  Five unearned runs were the teams undoing which was really too bad as they played well in so many other areas.

AC McMullen had a great day at the plate getting 3 of the team's 11 hits.  Tanya Marquardt, Tori Cheatham, Sam Bronkar and Leah Schaefer all had 2 hits each.  Leah had yet another triple in this game.

Morrisville State – 4        Principia – 3

There were a lot of similarities to this game and the game earlier in the day versus Bay Path.  Principia played quite well and had another solid offensive effort but defensive errors gave away too many runs.  Only one of Morrisville's runs was earned.  The Principia defense has made some outstanding defensive plays but seem to have a habit of losing their focus at times during the games that lead to mistakes that are proving to be very costly.

The offense looked good again in this game as they put together 9 hits along with several other hard hit balls that were outs.  AC McMullen led the team again in hits with 2 as did Noelle ShoemakeLeah Schaefer, yes, with another triple, Ashley Noville, Claire Thompson, Sam Bronkar and Tanya Marquardt all contributed a hit each.
