Principia Softball drops two games to Robert Morris Springfield

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. --

Robert Morris – 12           Principia – 10

This game had plenty of fireworks as both teams brought their offense to the table.  The two teams pounded out 22 hits with Principia getting 14 of those.  Principia jumped out to an early lead and had leads of 5-1 and 6-3 but then the wheels came off for a couple of innings.  Their pitchers had trouble finding the strike zone (walking 7 and hitting 3 batters during the game) plus add in 5 defensive errors and that led to a couple of big innings for Robert Morris.  Principia battled back and made it close as they had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the 7th before the final out of the game.

Some big offensive numbers got put up in this game with Noelle Shoemake leading the way with 3 hits.  AC McMullen just keeps finding holes in the defense as she got 2 more hits in this game as did Sam Bronkar, Tori Cheatham, Ashley Noville and Tanya Marquardt.  Leah Schaefer rounded out the offense with a hit of her own.

Robert Morris – 10           Principia – 0

Much like Tuesdays' games against Harris-Stowe, we saw two very different efforts from Principia on this day.  There wasn't much focus at all and it really showed.  It's hard to believe that the same players can play at such different levels in back to back games.  Aleigha Russell pitched a fairly solid game but some weak defense and absolutely no offense left her high and dry out on the mound.  Let's hope this is the last time we see this weak an effort from this team.

Although there wasn't much team offense Sam Bronkar accounted for 2 of the teams 3 hits.  AC McMullen garnered the other hit.
