Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. -- The Principia softball team celebrated their two seniors this evening,
Tori Cheatham and
Kelsey Whitney- both four year players for the Panthers. In between games, the juniors on the team read sweet remarks about the seniors, as well as head coach
Ken Leavoy. Kelsey and Tori have been a huge impact on Principia Softball, and they will be greatly missed!
Game one was very intense. The Griffins and the Panthers came into the game ready to attack at the plate and defend. The Griffins scored a run in the first inning and the Panthers answered by getting a run when they came up to bat.
Leah Schaefer got a single, then Sam Bronkar advanced Leah two bases with her single and finally,
Claire Thompson singled to bring Leah home for the run. The Panthers held the Griffins at 1-1 till the 5
th inning. Griffins scored another run in the 6
th and then three more runs in the 7
th making it a 6-1 game. The Panthers kept their high energy and proved that they could play with the Griffins.
The Panthers came into game two with the same high energy. However, so did the Griffins and they proved that by scoring in the first inning and in almost every inning after that. Principia battled in the box, getting a hit every inning but not enough to get a run. They played good defense and made the Griffins work to get plays, but the Griffins' offense over powered the Panthers and they found holes, forcing the Panthers to get mercy ruled after the 5th inning, with the final score 22-0.
AC McMullen,
Noelle Shoemake, Sam Bronkar,
Kelsey Whitney,
Tori Cheatham and
Emily Skala each got a hit in this game. Despite the score getting out of control, the Panther maintained their intensity the whole game!
The Principia Softball team is grateful for all the fans and supporters who followed them throughout the season and cheered them on!
