Softball falls to MacMurray College in double header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. --

GAME 1         MACMURRAY – 9               PRINCIPIA – 1

This game got off to a rocky start with Principia giving up 2 unearned runs in the top of the 1st.  MacMurray poured it on early as they scored 2 more in the 2nd inning and 3 more in the 3rd.  It was a little frustrating as Principia was hitting the ball really well but hitting it right at defensive players.  The score book shows only 5 hits for Principia but there were a lot of balls hit hard that went for outs.

Aleigha Russell got the start in this game and ran into a hot MacMurray offense that pounded out 14 hits.  With the early lead in the game and Principia's batters hitting well but not finding holes in the defense it was an uphill battle for Aleigha.
Principia had their chances and could have made this a close game as they left 8 runners in scoring position.  If just a few of those hard hit balls that went for outs had found a hole, this game would have had a very different look to it.

Tanya Marquardt led the offense going 2 for 2.  Sam Bronkar and Noelle Shoemake both were 1 for 1 with Sam scoring a run and Noelle earning an RBI.  Claire Thompson also got 1 hit going 1 for 3

GAME 2         MACMURRAY – 6               PRINCIPIA – 5

This may have been the most exciting game Principia has played this season.  They certainly got over the game 2 blues that they had been experiencing lately and played a really strong game.  After spotting MacMurray 2 runs in the 2nd inning Principia put together a 3 run 3rd inning and scored another in the 4th to take a 4-2 lead.  A shaky 4th inning gave  MacMurray 4 runs but the team rallied in the 7th to score 1 run but ended up leaving the tying run on base.  They were so close to pulling this one out!

Leah Schaefer pitched probably her best game of the year keeping MacMurray off balance and giving them little to hit.  Team errors were once again the likely reason for the team not getting a win in this game.  Leah limited MacMurray to 2 earned runs while Principia earned all 5 of theirs.

There was plenty of offense as Principia outhit their opposition 10-9 and only had 4 strike outs in the game.  Tanya Marquardt capped off a great double header for her with 2 more hits and scored 2 runs.  Aleigha Russell, Leah Schaefer and Sam Bronkar all had 2 hits with both Leah and Sam earning an RBI and Leah scoring 1 run.  AC McMullen had 1 hit, scored a run and earned an RBI.  Noelle Shoemake also had 1 hit and earned 2 RBI's in the game.
