PC battles against in two losses to Greenville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Greenville, ILL. --

GAME 1         Greenville – 9          Principia – 6

This was a good game against one of the better teams in SLIAC as Principia did a lot of things right on a very cold and windy night in Greenville.  Leah Schaefer got the start in this game and threw well, certainly well enough to give her team a chance for a win.  Principia scored in the top of the 1st inning and held that lead until Greenville scored 4 in the 3rd.  Principia answered with 1 in the top of the 4th but had that one poor inning in the 5th that has been their nemesis this season, giving up 4 more runs.  As they have often done this season they refocused and came back with 4 runs of their own in the 7th and had the tying run on 2nd when one of their base runners was hit by a ball in play ending the game.

Five errors were Principia's undoing in this game as those errors led to 5 unearned runs.  Take away those unearned runs and it likely is a win for Principia.

The offense was spread throughout the lineup in this game with Leah Schaefer leading the way going 2 for 4 and scoring 1 run.  AC McMullen and Aleigha Russell both were 1 for 3 and AC scored 2 runs with Aleigha also scoring 1 run and adding an RBI.  Sam Bronkar, Noelle Shoemake and Claire Thompson were 1 for 3.

GAME 2         Greenville – 8          Principia – 0   Mercy Rule in 5 innings

Continuing a recent pattern Principia followed up Game 1 with a disappointing result in Game 2.  They ran into another strong pitching effort by their opponent and as a result they couldn't generate any kind of offense at all.  Noelle Shoemake took the mound in this game and much like her last start just didn't get any offensive support which put a lot of pressure on her to be almost perfect.  Even though the score was 8-0, she only gave up 5 hits which will tell you that even when she doesn't have her best stuff she is still hard to hit.

The team is well aware of the pattern of playing well in game 1 and not as well in game 2 so look to see a change in that soon.  They continue to work hard and strive to compete so wins should follow.

Leah Schaefer and Noelle Shoemake each got 1 hit in this game and that was all the offense Principia could generate in this game.
