Women’s Swim and Dive Team Competes Well Despite Loss in Meet Against Hendrix

Elsah IL - The women's swimming and diving team lost to Hendrix 111 - 79. Despite the loss the women still earned 11 season bests and 3 lifetime bests.

The meet started off with the 100 Medley Relay. Senior Bailey Bischoff, senior captain Shelby Barner, sophomore Allegra Pierce and junior Amanda Loudon finished with a 57.70.

The next event was the 200 Free. Barner swam a season best with a 2:27.01. This was the first of many events that Barner swam that day. She signed on to complete the "Tin Baby" challenge. This is when an athlete competes in every event of a meet that has shorter events. Freshman Katie Lovegren also earned a season best with a 2:27.99.

During the 50 Free event Bischoff, Pierce, and sophomore Yasmin Mendoza had strong performances. Mendoza swam a season best with a 32.81, Bischoff swam a season best with a 29.23 and Pierce won the event, swimming a season best with a 26.50.

At that point in the meet it was time for the 1 Meter Diving - 6 Dive event. Senior Annika Erickson earned a lifetime best and also moved up on the Top 10 list, she is now 4th overall.

After the diving was finished, two women on the team earned season bests in the 100 Free. Freshman Clara Newsom earned a season best with a 1:16.31. Pierce won the event and earned a season best with a 57.63.

A few events later sophomore Gwen Battram swam a season best during the 50 Breast event with a 43.01. Barner swam a lifetime best with a 36.68.

The swimmers went down to the diving well to cheer the divers on again for the 3 Meter Diving - 6 Dive portion of the meet. Erickson earned another season best in that event with a final score of 186.85.

The meet ended with a bang! The 100 Free Relay is an event that is unique to this meet. Battram, Mendoza, Newsom and Lovegren finished with a 57.90. Loudon, Bischoff, Pierce, and Barner finished with a 52.24.

Although this was a smaller meet with uniquely short events, it gave the athletes an opportunity to get back into "meet mode" in time for the Principia Panther Invitational which happened the following day.
