Elsah, ILL. - The Men's Swimming and Diving team lost to Illinois College 106-52. Despite the loss, they were able to produce several season bests during the meet.
The meet started off with a ceremony honoring the seniors on the team. Seniors Bailey Bischoff, co-captain Shelby Barner, co-captain Hunter Mehring, Zacher Lewis and Annika Erickson were recognized for their contributions to the swimming and diving team. There were many fans that cheered for the them from the stands. The show of support from senior administration, the student body and well wishers spurred the team on.
The events started off with the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Andrew Boyd, Mehring, sophomore Garrett Barner, and Lewis finished with a 1:45.55 and were barely out-touched by their opponents. Boyd swam a lifetime best 50 BK split with a 28.72.
During the 200 Free event, Barner swam a season best with a 2:01.43. The next event was the 50 Free. Freshman Liam Anderson swam a season best with a 25.00. Boyd also swam a season best with a 24.65.
Two events later, Anderson swam a season best in the 100 Free with a 57.23. His teammate Boyd swam another season best during the next event which was the 100 Back, he finished with a 1:02.01. Anderson swam yet another season best in the 100 Breast finishing with a 1:12.57.
The meet ended with the 200 Free Relay. Barner, freshman Hannigan, Boyd and Lewis finished with a 1:38.03. Boyd swam a season best during his 50 Free split with a 25.40.
This meet against Illinois College was the last dual meet of the season. The team will continue getting ready for the Liberal Arts Championships which will be hosted by Principia College. The meet will be from the 8th to the 11th of February.
