Tuesday 10/10 - Elsah, ILL. -- Hearthstone closes out their third tournament week with heads held high after defeating both Northern Illinois University and Illinois State University.
Inside the Game:
The A-Team (
Sammy Keyes,
Michael McClelland,
Nate Richards) played with poise and direction this week and were able to close out a 4 game series in less than an hour against Northern Illinois University. After coming out strong to begin the best of five 2-0, a difficult matchup in the third match left Principia on the backfoot and behind on momentum going into the 4th game with the score 2-1. But, having learned from the previous failure when they let their emotions get the best of them in week one, Principia brought the match to a decisive close finishing the series 3-1.
The B-Team (
Michael Coburn,
Robin Grindstaff, Trent Easton) came into their match looking for revenge. The A-team had dropped Principia Hearthstone's only loss of the season so far to Illinois State in the first week of play, and it was now up to them to show Illinois that it was just a fluke. B-Team was able to prepare for this week's match efficiently and effectively, using the information the team and coach had gained regarding Illinois' gameplan and playstyle from the week one loss. Armed with a game plan specifically targeted at their opponent, B-Team marched ahead with a strong 2-0 start. After a brief stumble in game three, they were able to take home the redemption victory closing out the series 3-1 in favor of Principia.
