Tuesday 10/18 - Elsah, ILL. -- Principia Hearthstone marches on with another outstanding week. Two more big wins bring our team's tournament records to a strong 3-1 (A-Team) and 4-0 (B-Team) as the regular season nears its end.
Inside the Game:
The highlight of the A-Team's (
Sammy Keyes,
Michael McClelland,
Nate Richards) 3-0 win against Franciscan U was undoubtedly an unorthodox play spotted by
Nate Richards. The first match of the series was looking bleak, and as the game came to a close it was clear Principia would be starting the match on a loss. But, just before finishing the final turn, Nate spotted a line of play that would end the game in a draw instead of a loss for the Panthers. This play required intimate knowledge of a infrequent game mechanic, but Nate's ability to think outside the box saved the game for the Panthers and the draw required a rematch. From this position, the Panthers were able to clean sweep the rest of the series, winning three games in quick succession. Undoubtedly this was a series winning play, and Nate and the team followed up on their chance for redemption with poise and calculation snatching themselves a well deserved win advancing their tournament record to 3-1.
The B-Team (
Michael Coburn,
Robin Grindstaff, Trent Easton) brought in an equally exciting win against one of the teams from Iowa State. Each week brings more and more intensity as the Panthers fight to keep their perfect record. With only three matches remaining in the regular season after last night, the team's primary focus is to grab as many wins as possible to achieve the best possible placement in the postseason. The team played very well this week, and improved greatly after eeking out a win last week due to some poor decision making. The rest of the Hearthstone tournament is looking great for this Principia Hearthstone squad.
