ELSAH, IL. —On Saturday the Principia College Women's Swim Team hosted their first home meet against Lincoln College and Lindenwood-Belleville University.
The meet was scored as two separate dual meets. Principia came out 0-2, but fought hard throughout every race.
To begin the meet, sophomore Glynnis Harley, freshman Lydia Pierce, sophomore Katie Lovegren, and senior Amanda Loudon swam the 200 Medley Relay for a combined time of 2:18.01. Harley swam the first length Back (36.84), Pierce Breaststroke (36.79), Lovegren Fly (32.71), and Loudon Free (31.50).
Once the 200 Medley Relay concluded, Lovegren was back in the water for the 500 Freestyle and swam it with a time of 6:30.70. Soon after the 500 Free, the 200 Free happened. Loudon came in with a 2:34.22, which was a strong swim.
After the 100 Back, both Pierce and Harley stepped up to compete in the 100 Breast. Pierce came into the wall at a time of 1:19.19, and Harley with a time of 1:30.95.
After the 200 Butterfly finished up, the 50 Freestyle was filled with tough competition. Loudon swam a time of 32.51, and freshman Elizabeth Hull a 43.70.
As 1 Meter diving concluded, two of our women competed in the next event—100 Freestyle. Pierce ended with a time of 1:02.88 and Hull a 1:37.90.
After a couple of events, with none of our women swimmers involved, we jumped back into the competition with the 1000 Freestyle. Lovegren swam her hardest to achieve a time of 13:30.41, which was a pleasant surprise!
After a long break with the 100 Butterfly and 3 Meter diving session, Harley wrapped up the individual swims for the women. Harley gave it her all and came into the wall with a time of 2:52.25.
The team finished up the meet with the 400 Freestyle Relay. Loudon (1:12.48), Harley (1:10.72), Lovegren (1:07.68), and Pierce (1:02.25) gave it their all and came out with a combined time of a 4:32.80.
Key Moments:
For the women, there were many great swims during this meet. Glynnis had two season bests in the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 IM. Elizabeth also achieved two season bests in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle. In addition, Lydia achieved three season bests in the 100 Breaststroke, 100 Freestyle, and for the 50 Breaststroke Relay split. Lastly, Katie had a season best in the 500 Freestyle. She also had a season best, unshaved lifetime best, and lifetime best in the 1000 Freestyle and 50 Fly Relay split.
