Principia eSports Off To a Strong Start

Elsah, ILL. -- Principia College eSports started its first official tournament with a strong showing. Principia entered two teams into the Tespa Collegiate Hearthstone tournament. Team A started off already having a disadvantage against Michigan State due to deck choice, however their outstanding teamwork and level headed decisions led to a solid 3-1 victory. Senior Nate Richards explains why they have such great chemistry, "Cody, Cedar and I have been playing video games with each other for as long as I can remember, and our experience clearly showed last night in the teamwork put into making decisions. Throughout the whole night there was only one mistake that we made, but we ended up winning that match anyway. The level of humility and clear group communication that we expressed was definitely the source of our victory." Team A will continue to practice their decks and are discussing a possible change to one of their main decks. Team A is made up of Legend Level Hearthstone seniors Cedar Brumm, Cody Veidelis, and Nate Richards.

Team B also had a solid match against the University of Illinois-Chicago. The match was a long, drawn out battle that ultimately resulted in a 2-3 loss for the B team. There were no obvious misplays and the team worked together well. Like most card games the luck of the draw is a big factor and Team B did not get some of the cards they were looking for. Team B has the young guns on the block. Freshman Michael Coburn commented, "We had fun the whole time! We were laughing and having fun throughout every game, and the other team was really sportsmanlike. We're revising our deck choices and deck lists for next week, and we're really excited to play our best again next Tuesday!" Team B's roster is freshmen Brothers Michael & Mitchell Coburn, and junior Robin Grindstaff.

Both teams will continue round robin play next Tuesday night in an attempt to make the regional tournament.
