Grinnell, IA. -- This weekend a smaller group of Track and Field athletes traveled to Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa for the Darren Young invitational.
The day started with first and second-year jumpers
Charlie Thompson and
Jonathan Ansumana in the long jump, jumping 5.14m (16' 10") and 6.58m (21' 7") respectively which put Ansumana in 3rd place. Later in the day Thompson competed in the triple jump with a jump of 10.51m (34' 5"). Ansumana ran well in the 60 (7.48) and the 200 (23.97).
Freshman thrower Chris Peduski competed in the shot put where he set a new personal record of 10.04m which is 32' 11". He is currently transitioning from the glide to the spin technique and he's adjusting to the weight of the collegiate shot.
All three of the women runners ran the mile at this meet. Setting new personal-bests were junior Cha Cha Fisher and freshman Ava Lesko with times of 6:07.35 and 6:16.80 respectively. Junior Brie Burns also ran the mile with a time of 6:35.47.
Running the mile for the men were freshmen
Quinn Heinbaugh (5:10.82) and
Sean Hannigan who set a new PR of 6:21.08. Junior Zach Mattheisen won the mile race with a time of 4:19.65.
Later Mattheisen and Heinbaugh ran the 800 with times of 2:02.04 and 2:09.49. Teammates Matthew McLoud-Warrick (2:20.51) and
Tyler Winterbottom (2:20.07) also had great 800 races.
Finishing off the day was
Nick Lynch and
Nate Richards in the 3000. Lynch ran a 17 second personal best with a time of 10:17.91. Richards won the 3000 with a time of 8:37.93, the best he has seen in two seasons in this event.
The team will travel to Illinois College next Friday night for the IC Alumni Classic.
