Thunder Chickens host Ramblers in friendly scrimmage

Elsah, ILL. -- The Thunder Chickens hosted a friendly scrimmage against the St. Louis Ramblers Men's Rugby Club on Saturday. The two teams played a game of 7s followed by a game of 15s broken up into quarters. The Thunder Chickens took a demanding lead in 7s winning 26-5, while falling short against the Ramblers in 15s 26-40.

The Principia Rugby 7s started their game off on the right foot, scoring within the first few minutes. The Thunder Chickens were relentless in pressuring the Ramblers, which was demonstrated when they kept possession of the ball for most of the game. Fluid and patient offense along with a hard-nose defense led to an explosive win and incredible plays. Captain Jaime Serna had one try saving tackle and scored two tries himself, while freshman Goergie Agai scored one try and sophomore Scott Marunde scored two tries.

The 15s game was hard fought, but fell short. The game started at a stalemate, the two teams' defenses held each other to no scores for the first quarter. After the first quarter, both teams erupted trading scores. Throughout the game both teams were able to rotate through the roster getting everyone playing time. Overall a solid performance by both teams. Senior Peter Nabiswa scored one try, junior Zeya Kyaw scored one try, senior Jaime Serna had two more try saving tackles, and freshman Georgie Agai scored 2 tries walking away with three total on the day.
