Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Louisville, KY. -- The Panthers traveled to Louisville, KY to take on the Spalding University Golden Eagles in a conference doubleheader. Although the Panthers played well and kept the games close, the Golden Eagles came away with both "Ws".
Game 1:Principia 3, Spalding 6
The Panthers played good defense this game with some clutch plays to get them out of high pressure situations.
Leah Schaefer was on the rubber and pitched a great game for the Panthers. Unfortunately, giving up 2 errors in this game let Spalding take and maintain the lead.
The Panthers got on the board early with
Hannah Hathaway opening the gate with a home run- the Panther's first home run of the season, and Hathaway's first collegiate home run.
Leah Schaefer had two doubles, and
AC McMullen and
Ashley Noville each hit a single.
Leah Schaefer brought in two RBIs while
Hannah Hathaway brought in one with Hathaway scoring twice and McMullen scoring once. With only a few people getting on base, the Panthers couldn't pull out the win. The offense in game one just wasn't grooving despite a couple of big hits.
Game 2:Principia 1, Spalding 5
The Panther defense improved in game two, committing no errors and consistently getting themselves out of pressure innings with minimum damage. The defense was tight and purposeful throughout the entire game, never letting one inning get away from them. However, the Panthers were still unable to groove their hits together in game two, only getting a total of five hits for the game. Great defense kept the Panthers in the game, but the low number of hits cost the Panthers a win.
Leah Schaefer continued her great day in the box with another double and a single.
Sarai Marcano,
Hannah Hathaway, and
Aleigha Russell each had a single. Marcano's single brought in the only run for the Panthers with Schaefer coming home to score.
Today's games proved that the Panthers can hang with some of the top ranked conference teams. Next week, the team is looking to string hits together offensively and continue to play clean defense.
