Softball snags two wins in road game against MacMurray

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. -- The Panthers traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois for a conference matchup against the MacMurray Highlanders and after a full team effort, Principia came away with two solid wins.

Game 1: Principia 2, MacMurray 1
The Panthers did not come out attacking on offense this game. With eight hits, Principia was only able to bring two runs across the plate, leaving six runners on base. Multiple base running errors cost the Panthers several runs. Had the team been mentally sharp in the batter's box and on the base path, the Panthers could have brought many more runs home.

The Panther defense was sharp and effective which won game one for the Panthers today.  Despite only getting two runs across the plate, the Panthers did rack up a total of eight hits. Samantha Bronkar, AC McMullen, Lauren Daugherty, Leah Schaefer, Aleigha Russell, Ashley Noville, and Tanya Marquardt all hit a single this game. Hannah Hathaway hit the only double for the Panthers in game one.  Aleigha Russell hit in an RBI for the Panthers with Schaefer and Noville scoring.

Game 2: Principia 16, Mac Murray 6
The Panthers came out ready to attack on offense in the first inning. With some slow innings from MacMurray, the Panthers were able to keep their bats hot and attack when the ball was in their zone. Base runners were smart on the base path, capitalizing on MacMurray's errors. Despite a small bump in the road during the second inning, the Panther defense was sharp all game long, getting outs and going all out. All three facets of the game were there for the Panthers in game two, helping the Panthers towards their first conference sweep in 4 years.

The Panthers did a great job getting the lead-off batter on base most innings. A great game was lead off by Samantha Bronkar getting on base with a single. Leah Schaefer and Ashley Noville each had singles, and Schaefer also hit a double. Hannah Hathaway had a great game in the box with one double and one triple. Lauren Daugherty, Hannah Hathaway, Emily Hewitt, and Aleigha Russell each had one RBI and Schaefer and Noville each had two. Crossing the plate in this game was Samantha Bronkar, Ac McMullen, Lauren Daugherty, Hannah Hathaway, Leah Schaefer, Emily Hewitt, Ashley Noville, and Tanya Marquardt. Samantha Bronkar and Leah Schaefer each had a stolen base in the game.

The Panthers look forward to carrying this momentum forward into their match up against Westminster College on Friday at home.
