Griffins take down Panthers in softball doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 St. Louis, MO. -- The Panthers traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to take on top ranked conference opponent, Fontbonne University.  The Griffins proved why they are top in the conference by sweeping the Panthers 18-0 and 8-1 in the double header.

Game 1: Principia 0, Fontbonne 18
The Panthers started well offensively, getting base runners on, but could not bring any runs across the plate. Principia's defense also came out strong, keeping the Griffins scoreless in the first inning. However, Fontbonne started hitting the gaps hard which seemed to rattle Prin's defense. The Panthers started to make mental errors which Fontbonne capitalized on. Team morale and energy got low and stayed there for the duration of the game. Offensively, the Panthers struggled to get runners on, and when they did they couldn't bring anyone across.

The Panther's only three hits for the game were all singles belonging to Samantha Bronkar, Tanya Marquardt, and Hannah Hathaway. No runs scored.

Game 2:Principia 1, Fontbonne 8
The Panthers put more balls in play in game two, making the Griffins work for their outs, however, the balls just weren't finding the gaps. Aleigha Russell was on the rubber, and pitched very well, giving the Panthers a chance to stay in the game. Russell drew several ground balls and pop ups that the Panther defense was able to handle.

A solid hit double from Hannah Hathaway put the Panthers on the board, bringing Leah Schaefer in to score.
