Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. -- The Panthers hosted the Westminster Blue Jays for a home conference matchup. The Blue Jays proved to be too tough for Principia to handle, and left with two decisive wins.
Game 1: Westminster 10, Principia 0
The Panthers came out strong on defense from the start, but let up in the second inning when mental errors caused the Panthers to get behind by 8 runs. Despite a messy second inning, the Panthers were able to get themselves out of potentially big innings, holding runners with tight defense. The Westminster offense was hitting the gaps, but the Panther defense consistently minimized damage when they could. Principia's offense did not show up virtually at all game one, having a total of only 2 hits for the game.
The two hits for the Panthers in game one go to
AC McMullen with a single, and
Leah Schaefer with a double. No runs scored.
Game 2: Westminster 14, Principia 2
The Panthers started off the game with a rough 1
st inning, allowing Westminster to rack up 12 runs right out of the gate. The Panther offense came out ready to answer, but could only put up one run. Westminster hit the gaps, but Principia buckled down and played good defense, backing up pitcher
Aleigha Russell. Principia came wanting to hit this game, but couldn't quite produce the runs needed to stay in the game.
Singles for this game go to
Leah Schaefer,
Hannah Hathaway,
Lauren Daugherty, and
Tanya Marquardt. Daugherty and Marquardt each had an RBI with Schaefer and
