Box Score 2 Carlinville, ILL. -- The Principia Panthers traveled to Carlinville, Illinois to take on the Blackburn Beavers. Although the Panthers kept both games extremely close, the Beavers edged the Panthers out and claimed both games.
Game 1:Principia 11, Blackburn 12
Principia came out ready to play, getting runners on base and putting up three runs in the 1
st inning, and three more in the 2
nd. The offense got comfortable with a 6-0 lead and sat for the 3
rd-5
th inning. The Blackburn Beavers started hitting the gaps in the Panther defense, meaning Principia had no room for mental or physical errors. The Panthers began to hesitate on defense which cost them several runs and their lead. Principia's offense came back in the 6
th inning to re-gain the lead, but they couldn't quite get enough insurance. The Beavers had a two run walk off homer to win the game. Had the Panthers kept the bats going throughout the entire game, there may have been a much different outcome.
The Panthers still had a great offensive outing, putting up 16 hits total in game one and 11 of those hits scoring runs. The Panthers got hits throughout the entire line up, forcing the Beavers to make plays.
Lauren Daugherty and
Emily Hewitt had a great day at the plate today going 3 for 5 and 2 for 3 respectively.
Leah Schaefer hit another double this game with 2 RBIs.

Game 2: Principia 4, Blackburn 8
The Panther offense struggled to come out strong for game two, and continued to struggle finding gaps in the Beaver defense. The Panthers got down early in the first inning, committing two errors. The defense continued to make errors on critical outs that could have saved the Panthers several runs. The bats came back for Principia again in the 6
th inning, producing 5 hits and 3 runs. The Panthers made good contact, but were unable to find the gaps in Blackburn's defense.
Hannah Hathaway had quite the game with a single, a double, and a triple going 3 for 4.

Tanya Marquardt each had a single.
Lauren Daugherty and
Emily Hewitt both had doubles. Hewitt, Marcano, and Hathaway each scored.
The Panthers continue to work on keeping their bats hot throughout the entire game. They will have another chance on Thursday against Robert Morris Springfield.
