Panther Softball takes one game from the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. -- The Panthers hosted the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers for a conference make-up doubleheader that was postponed earlier in the season due to weather.  Both teams competed hard and each team took one game, with Principia winning game one 7-2 and Iowa Wesleyan taking game two 6-2.

Game 1: Iowa Wesleyan 2, Principia 7
Principia came out strong today on defense, sitting the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers down with no runs. The Panthers also came out strong on offense putting up three runs in the first inning. Some defensive errors got the Panthers into trouble, but great pitching by Leah Schaefer enabled the Panthers to get out of it. The offense came out ready to attack today, while pitching and defense consistently shut the Tigers down.

With an explosive offense, Emily Hewitt and Hannah Hathaway each had a single and more than 1 RBI each. Leah Schaefer, Hannah Hathaway and Lauren Daugherty each had a double with RBIs. This was a well-deserved win for the Panthers.

Game 2: Iowa Wesleyan 6, Principia 2
The Panthers fell behind early in the game due to the Tigers finding gaps in Principia's defense. A few clutch hits by the Panthers got them on the board, and tight defense was able to hold Iowa Wesleyan in some potentially big innings. The Panther offense put the ball in play, but just couldn't find the gaps they needed to get runners across. With a few less hits in game two, the Panthers fought hard but were unable to come back from a tough first half of the game and fell 2-6 to the Tigers.

Ashley Noville and Hannah Hathaway had a few of the Panther's clutch hits with two singles each. Leah Schaefer also had a single while Lauren Daugherty hit a double. Emily Hewitt had an RBI that brought Hathaway in, and Daugherty was smart on the base path to get herself home.

The Panthers are looking to take this momentum into their match-up against Greenville College tomorrow at home at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
