Softball sweeps St. Louis College of Pharmacy in home doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Elsah, ILL. -- The Panthers took on St. Louis College of Pharmacy tonight and came away with two solid wins, 4-0 for game one and 7-6 in game two.

Game 1: St. Louis College of Pharmacy 0 , Principia 4
The Panthers came out with a lot more fire today. The team played solid defense and attacked on offense early, scoring one run in the first inning. The offense continued throughout the game, putting up runs almost every inning. The Panthers maintained their fire throughout the entire game, bringing in their first win of the season, shutting out St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

AC McMullen started the Panthers off this game with a hit by pitch while Lauren Daugherty hit her in with a double. Samantha Bronkar, Hannah Hathaway, and Tanya Marquardt all had two singles in this game. Lauren Daugherty hit a double, and Emily Hewitt hit a triple. Bronkar hit in two of the team's runs, and Daugherty and Marquardt each had 1 RBI. AC McMullen, Hannah Hathaway, Ashley Noville, and Sarai Marcano each scored 1 run.

Game 2: St. Louis College of Pharmacy 6 , Principia 7
The Panthers started off game two a little sloppy, committing several errors and not exploding on offense. Leah Schaefer pitched both games tonight, continuing to give her defense ground balls and pop flies. Samantha Bronkar came in clutch several times on defense, helping the Panthers out of "bases loaded" situations twice. The sloppy play persisted throughout the game until the 6th and 7th inning when the Panther offense decided to turn on the bats and get some runs. The 7th inning proved very exciting as the Panthers were able to tie up the game and send it in to extra innings. Some clutch hitting and smart base running came in handy in the bottom of the 8th, and the Panthers brought in the win with Emily Hewitt hitting a walk off double to win the game.

Ashley Noville started off game two with an early double. Tanya Marquardt, Samantha Bronkar, Leah Schaefer, and Sarai Marcano all had singles late in the game. Marcano hit in her first RBI of the season and the Panther's first run of the night. Hannah Hathaway hit a double late in the 7th inning, bringing in 3 RBIs to tie up the game and send the Panthers into extra innings. Along with Hewitt's game winning double, she also hit a stand up triple.

An outstanding night for Principia gives the team momentum for their weekend away at Louisville, KY where they will compete in a double header at Spalding University on Saturday.
