Terre Haute, IN. -- The women's team traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana to play Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in their first match of the season. It was a good test for the players to evaluate how well they are playing and what they need to improve. Today's match started with singles.
Brittany Duke played in the #1 position for the first time this year. She moved up from the #6 position that she played last year. She hit strong returns and forced the play sending most games into a battle of deuces. It was a match filled with hard groundstroke rallies. At #2 singles,
Hallie Jones, a junior, moved into the singles lineup this year. She played well forcing groundstrokes but she was not consistent enough to swing the match in her favor. At #3 singles,
Olivia Kasprzyk, played a strong match and forced play with strong approach shots but her opponent countered with great defense.
Sarah Switzer played #4 singles and earned the most games with her steady play.
Dani Lomascolo, at #5 singles, hit strong approach shots and earned her points with strong volleys.
Amber Heady, a freshman playing #6 singles, had fun in her match. She is learning to read what her opponent is doing and worked to keep her feet moving. After singles, Rose Hulman was ahead 6-0. The complete scores from the match are below.
The next test of the teams' skills is a tri-match on March 3
rd with Lake Forrest and Greenville, starting at 8:30 AM. Please come out and support the team.
