Men's Tennis arrived to face the Kingsmen and were fortunate to play the match after a lengthy rain delay. They started the day with singles play this time, meaning the Panthers needed at least two wins to head into doubles with a chance to win.
On the last two courts
Brody Swan and
Nat Kenworthy each started fast by going up an early break but couldn't maintain their positive momentum.
Daniel Gomez gave the Panthers their first win of the day, so it came down to
Wyatt Dale on court two to keep the match alive. After starting slow in the first set and tied at 5-5 in the second, he forced a break and held serve to move to a tiebreak but was unable to close it out.
With the match decided at 5-1, doubles was sent out and only played to six games. Gomez and Swan moved down to the third spot and played yet another tight match, although this time won the big points in a tiebreak for a much-needed victory. In their move up to 2
nd doubles, Kenworthy and
Jules Kitchingman broke Cal Lu's serve early and held on to bring the overall match score to 6-3.
The Panthers now wait until next Saturday to play against Carthage and Carroll College when they travel to Wisconsin. Their spring break trip has been the most successful in recent memory, as Gomez went undefeated in singles and the doubles team of Kenworthy and Kitchingman finished 3-0. After getting no more than two individual wins per match each of the last three years, the Panthers won on at least three courts against every opponent this week. The team also appreciates everyone who showed to support them.
