CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN – The Panthers' Men's Tennis team took a road trip to Indiana over the weekend to face the Wabash College Little Giants and the Earlham College Quakers.
Wabash, who hosted the tri match, have recently rebuilt their roster into formidable force in order to compete in their challenging NCAC conference. The Little Giants showed their new strength, besting Principia 9-0 for the Panthers' second loss of the season. Principia battled well on all fronts and come close in several matches as they lost 3 out of 9 in a final set tiebreaker – including Juan Segovia at #1 singles, Ernesto Botero at #4 singles, and William Johnson and Jesús Soto Bossa at #3 doubles. The Panthers took this defeat on their chins with valuable lessons to apply to their next contests.
Following the Wabash loss, the Panthers turned right around to face the Quakers. Earlham's newly budding team was strong at the top of their lineup, giving the Panthers some deep challenges in both doubles and singles. Principia's only loss of the match came at the hands of Huynseong Ahn in the #2 singles spot. The Quakers only had 5 players, so the match also included 2 walkovers at the #3 doubles and #6 singles spots. Overall, it was a nice bounce back effort by the Panthers to improve to 7-2 heading into spring break.
Up Next: The Panthers have 2 weeks off to train for their next contests against Rhodes College and Wheaton College (MA) over spring break in southern California.
