ELSAH, IL – The Panthers Men's Tennis team began conference play on Tuesday night when they hosted the Webster Gorloks for a dual match. In between the doubles and singles, coach
Rusty Jones honored his two seniors,
Juan Segovia and
William Johnson. We thank them for all they gave to Principia during their four year careers!
The match began with the doubles contests as Principia prevailed in two out of three matches. The Panthers' only loss came at #1 doubles in an intense, back-and-forth match. This would prove to be Principia's only loss of the night as the Panthers turned up their play to another level for singles and swept all six matches without dropping a set.
The play was much closer than the lopsided score would suggest as the Gorloks put up a good fight across the board and helped raise the Panthers' level of competition. The depth of Webster's squad has improved this year, and this refreshing upgrade shows that their recruiting efforts are promising for the UMAC South. The Panthers and Gorloks may meet again in the SLIAC Tournament in two weeks, depending on how the regular season plays out.
