Carlie strides into her final tennis season with the confidence of a two-time SLIAC Player of the Year.  She will play  #1 singles and #1 doubles and will lead the team as captain.  Carlie has improved all aspects of her game and is more aware of her opportunities to pressure her opponent and control each point. She is an inspirational leader, a thoughtful teammate, a consistent practice partner, and a fierce competitor. She strives to repeat as Player of the Year and lead the team to the SLIAC Conference Championship and a return (for her third time) to the NCAA post- season regional tournament.

Junior Year (2013)
Carlie returns to the tennis team this year after taking a year off to go on the Spring France Abroad in 2012. Carlie is looking to improve on her freshman year record and help this team return to the SLIAC Championships and the NCAA Regional Tournament.  As a freshman, Carlie was the SLIAC Player and Newcomer of the Year, 2011 and led the team at #1 singles and doubles to the NCAA Regional tournament. Carlie is a captain this year where she will put her leadership skills to work guiding the four new freshman players. Carlie has strong ground strokes and will work this year on moving into the net more often to close out the points.  She is looking forward to teaming with Sarah Corbitt in doubles this year.

Freshman Year (2011)
Carlie comes to Principia College after playing singles at her high school and qualifying for conference and state playoffs.  Tennis is Carlie’s second sport, her first is soccer.  This past fall she played in the NCAA Regional Soccer championships after the Principia Women’s Soccer Team won the SLIAC Championship. Carlie has strong ground strokes and a fierce competitive spirit that makes her a challenge for all opponents. Carlie will play at the top of the line-up and she hopes to return to the NCAA Regional Tennis championships this spring.

When did you start playing this sport and why?
My mom had us start playing as soon as we could walk and hold a racquet.

What do you love most about playing this sport?
I love the competitive, yet graceful nature of the sport.  I also love that it is just you out on the court, so you really have to learn to be mentally tough and figure things out on your own.
